When Parenting Becomes Project Management
Doctor visits. So many doctor visits. How many of you have a child who, for one reason or another, sees more doctors than the rest of the family combined? Coordinating appointments, getting a child to and from doctors, getting yourself to work, juggling other kids and everything else that comes with life can feel like an extreme sport. What is your strategy. How do you manage.
I realized yesterday, while staring at my Google Calendar, just how much scheduling happens in one single school week. All the colors. So many colors. Logistics is never a job I thought I would have. Ever. Yet here I am, fully employed in it.
Over the years, my solution has been Noah’s Village and Google Calendar. We share schedules, invite people to appointments and tasks, and somehow make it all work. It works so well that two of my girls now use Google Calendar for work and play practice. Small wins. 😀
What really hit me yesterday was how much it truly takes a village. Next week I am taking Noah to KKI for a sleep clinic evaluation. Later that same week, Rob, Noah’s dad, is taking him to KKI for a sedated EEG. The following week, Shane, Noah’s stepdad, is taking him to his endocrinology appointment. That does not even include my parents and others who help with drop offs and pick ups for all the kids. That is just one seven day stretch.
I am incredibly thankful and blessed for this support and would love to hear other strategies and ideas. Please share your strategies in the comments on Facebook or feel free to email me at [email protected]. We are still working on being able to comment directly on the blog.
